It has been a mandatory requirement throughout the EEC, since 30thJune 2003, for all newly commissioned transportable gas sample vessels to be Pi marked.
The Vacuum Fabrications division of Chell Instruments Ltd has worked closely with HSE for over six years, attaining certification for the design and construction of Pi marked vessels. Vessels up to 30 litre capacity are now fully accredited and have been cleanliness tested by the Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of East Anglia, for whom they have been developed.
Construction is carried out in-house, where our UHV and UHP fabrication facility produces vessels conforming to BS EN 13322-2. All welders are qualified to BSEN 287-1 and use procedures that meet ISO 15614-1 and ASME IX . All welds meet the requirements of EN 25817 level C (Stringent) before they are helium leak tested to better than 1 x 10-9 Torr litre/sec, before being baked for 4 hours at 300oC, With an ultimate vacuum of 2 x 10-9 Torr, RGA scan of 200amu provided.
Our customers rely heavily on our design and certification expertise and we are ready to commission new designs as they are requested. New designs will require full approval by the Nominated Body, Lloyds Register and this process involves extensive testing, both destructive and non-destructive, in order to prove the design.
